What are RECs?
For every unit of renewable electricity generated, an equivalent amount of renewable energy certificates is produced. When we purchase RECs, we are essentially purchasing green power as the electricity we are paying for with RECs will be provided to the national grid for no additional charge. Our purchase will help offset greenhouse gas emissions from our use of electricity that is generated from coal and other non-renewable sources. It will also be helping build a market for renewable electricity and may have other local and global environmental benefits such as reducing global climate change and regional air pollution. NativeEnergy (our provider) ensures that electricity is generated from 100% wind generation facilities and delivered to the national power grid in an amount equal to our monthly purchase.
